Frequently asked questions
How to connect NBN to a new house (Granny flat, Duplex etc.)?
An NBN New Development application needs to be lodged with the service plan design for connection. A developer contribution charge payable directly to NBN of $600/premise applies. Once paid and the service plan has been approved, the lead-in will need to be constructed accordingly.
What is an NBN New Development application and when to use it?
An NBN New Development application is used to connect a new premise, with its own separate address to NBN. It cannot be used to connect knock down rebuilds of a single dwelling on a previously NBN connected address. In this case, removal of the existing NBN infrastructure needs to be arranged prior to knock down, to avoid asset replacement costs, and lengthy delays.
What is the NBN New Development charge?
- The NBN developer contribution charge is:
- $600 per premise for single dwelling units, terrace housing or duplex
- $400 per premise for buildings with 3 or more separate premises, strata form, group
- A backhaul contribution charge may be applicable to areas where the NBN access network is not available.
How to apply for NBN?
An existing dwelling can be connected by contacting the preferred internet service provider (ISP) and constructing the lead-in for the connection.
A new premise can be connected with NBN by lodging an NBN New Development application and submitting a service plan. A developer contribution charge payable directly to NBN applies. Once paid and the service plan has been approved, a lead-in conduit will need to be constructed extending from the unit to the property boundary. From here NBN will build the connection to your lead-in, installing the external Premise Connection Device (PCD), internal Network Termination Device (NTD) and activating the service. At this point, your preferred Internet Service Provider (ISP) can be contacted for your plan of choice.
Why choose an NBN trained New Development supplier for my Development?
Working with a trained supplier will ensure the new development service plan design and installations are built right the first time to correct standard, fast-track development council certification, avoid NBN site inspection fees for constructed work and added remediation costs and project delays.
Can I get a same day quotation?
Yes, a quote can be provided on the same day if we receive your development plans.
What to do when renovating an NBN connected property?
If your NBN assets are in the way of your renovation plans, you will need to arrange for them to be removed by authorised personnel prior to renovating, to avoid costly asset replacement fees, and lengthy reconnection delays. Depending on the extent of the renovation plans, an application may need to be lodged with NBN to perform a full disconnection and recovery of the assets before renovating.
